Xeno about Xenophilius
Hi. My name is Xeno. I've written about strange creatures and conspiracy theories on Xenophilia.com since 1990.
As you can imagine, I'm stunned and excited by the appearance of a character named "Xenophilius" (also called Xeno!) in the last Harry Potter book!!
The first book in the HP series was published June 26, 1997, seven years after I began my site. I don't think, therefore, that the lovely Joanne K. Rowling or the Time Warner Entertainment Company, L.P. will have much of a problem with my conspiracy theory that I am, in fact, the real Xenophilius Lovegood. I do love and fight for good, after all.
Did my obscure web site inspire the character of "Xenophilius"? Some of my friends say that this is just one more of life's amazing coincidences ... others BELIEVE that I am the real Xenophilius.
Top 10 Reasons I AM the real Xenophilius
#9. Appearance: I have a slightly wandering eye that points outward when I relax it too much. (Okay, his points inward, but we both have oddly pointing eyes.)
#10. The Rook: I play chess constantly and Xenophilius in the HP story lives in a giant Rook.
#8. Affinity for Witches: I once lived with a girlfriend who was a graduate of the Berkeley Psychic Institute ... about as close as you can get to a real Hogwarts school for Witches and Wizardry around here.
#7. Magical family: I have at least one family member who can do amazing mind reading tricks that completely freak people out. Another relative is a performing magician (mentalist) in Las Vegas who entertains celebrities at parties.
#6. People call both of us Xeno as a nickname.
#5. Metaphysical: When my grandfather died many years ago, I had one of those dreams where the deceased person visits you and gives you a message. Mine was just an image but I knew it was him delivering it. The image was the illustration of Xenophilius' home in Rowling's book above.
#4. Mind altering headgear: I was on the local news once for having the first Sacramento Flash Mob. For that performing arts event, I had ordinary people show up at a theatre and don tinfoil hats. I also performed an orginal "Tinfoil Hat" song in Hollywood with a comedy troup. My band has audiences make foil hats while we play. Tinfoil hats, of course, are said to prevent mind control by blocking out radio waves. In the Harry Potter story, Xenophilius has invented a crazy hat which allows "the acceptance of extraordiary things" and which removes "all sources of distraction from the thinker's immediate area." - DH page 404.#3. Xenophilius in the novel is Luna's father. I'm a musician and the place my band Xenophilia plays most often is called "Luna's Cafe" in Sacramento, California, USA. Here's a screenshot from our web site when we played in 2003:
Another few Luna tie-ins: Luna means moon and I have a huge "Moon conspiracy" article on Xenophilia.com. Also, I wrote a song for people who believe we never went to the moon. My song is called "I want to kiss you on the Moon".
#2. Xenophilia.com is branded with a symbol eerily similar to the one worn by Xenophilius in thestory.
“… an odd symbol, rather like a triangular eye, glistened from a golden chain around his neck.” - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, p.139
... and the number one reason is...
#1. Like Xenophilius, I am the editor of a "newsletter" (blog/website) about strange creatures thought not to exist and conspiracy theories. My newsletter, Xenophilia.com, is packed with quibbling (debating minute details) and Xenophilius' newsletter is called the "Quibbler".
Reasons I'm NOT Xenophilius
- I don't have a daughter and I've never had a wife... well I'd like to, but it never quite worked out. I've been too busy hunting down oddities and mysteries, trying to save the world in my little way, I suspect. ( If you are a good-hearted single witch and you have a daughter named "Luna" or would like to name our daughter "Luna" well ... write to me... We'd certainly have an amazing story to tell when people asked us how we met! )
- I would NOT turn a good guy in to the bad guys. Like Joanne K Rowling, the real Xeno (myspace) is an Amnesty International supporter. Anyway, the way I see it, Xenophilius' actions when the three heros met him in person did not fit his character. After all, Xenophilius and Luna believed in Harry Potter when no one else did in an earlier book.See my work in progress: Chapter 36 and 3/4, where I describe the Karagoz (a sort of clone puppet) which Xenophilius left behind at his house to fool the Death Eaters while he was trying to find and free his daughter.
